What has been in the news for days, now finally happened as
Boris Becker was released from the Huntercombe Prison he saw being held at since May.
The former tennis superstar was convinced in April for hiding assets worth millions to avoid paying debts. The German was sentenced to 2,5 years in prison but served only 8 months due to being a foreign national. He was released this morning and will be deported to Germany on the same day.
A UK resident since 2012 Becker was eligible for deportation as he received a prison sentence over 12 months while not having UK citizenship. On the release a Home Office spokesperson said:
"Any foreign national who is convicted of a crime and given a prison sentence is considered for deportation at the earliest opportunity."
It's believed that Becker won't serve any prison time in his native Germany as he will reunite with his family for the Holidays. He's also been offered a position in the German Tennis Federation along with multiple media appearances and a book deal. He's still bound by law to repay his debts as part of his deportation deal.
