Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will not feature in Netflix's Breaking Point tennis documentary set to premiere in January of next year.
Governing tennis bodies struck a deal with Netflix for a documentary series similar to the one the company did for Formula One. The overwhelming success of that series prompted tennis executives to explore that in hopes of making the sport popular among the younger fans. It worked for Formula One who got a boom from the Drive to Survive series. The tennis one is named Breaking Point but it won't feature some of the biggest names.
There won't be any Roger Federer in there which is kind of understandable but there won't be any Djokovic or Nadal either. It's a bit disappointing for fans as both had some incredible moments this year. It might be by design as a statement by the ATP and WTA said it will focus on younger players:
"As some of tennis’ legends reach the twilight of their careers, this is the chance for a new generation to claim the spotlight. Break Point gets up close and personal with these players over a year competing across the globe. From career-threatening injuries and emotional heartbreak, to triumphant victories and personal moments off the court, viewers will get a behind-the-scenes look at the pressure-tested lives of some of the best tennis players in the world."
