Italy’s young tennis star
Jannik Sinner has earned a lot of
praise from some of the high-profile names in the sport after his recent
triumph.
The 22-year-old defeated the current world number three Russia’s
Daniil Medvedev in the final of the China Open with a score of 7-6, 7-6 to lift
the title.
Following that win, Sinner received a lot of praise from the
likes of ex-Andre Agassi coach Brad Gilbert and former Serena Williams coach Rennae
Stubbs.
"Tremendous win for Sin City @janniksin. Taking out
Meddy Bear for 1st time, what a back to back days in Beijing for the
title," wrote Gilbert.
"So happy for @janniksin !!! So deserves this. Congrats
mate!!," Stubbs tweeted.
Former world number one
Boris Becker also congratulated
Sinner on his achievement in a story on his official Instagram account.
The current world number four is often regarded as one of
the best young talents in the circuit in men’s singles tennis alongside Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz.
The victory against Medvedev in the final of the event was
an important one for the Innichen-born who had a difficult time competing in
big events this year.
Sinner played in the main round of all Grand Slams but
managed to qualify for the quarterfinal or beyond in just one event — Wimbledon.
In that competition,
his journey ended after he lost to the current world number one Novak Djokovic in
straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 7-6.
