Rising tennis sensation
Carlos Alcaraz has been announced as a participant at the
Swiss Indoors Basel event, where he could face 10-time champion and hometown hero
Roger Federer.
The Swiss maestro has been dealing with injuries since last year's
Wimbledon, subsequently taking the rest of the year off to have knee surgery. Although there were rumors that Federer would be ready to play at this year's Wimbledon, the 40-year old has all but confirmed his absence and is set to return at the Laver Cup and then in his hometown tournament.
Alcaraz will be making his debut at Basel, as the Spaniard has had a sensational season. The 19-year old lifted his maiden ATP Masters 1000 in Miami, before reaching a career-high of World No.6.
Although Federer has never faced the Spaniard on the ATP circuit, it could be a generational battle for the ages if both men were to meet at some point during the ATP 250 event. The Swiss Indoors Basel runs from October 22-30, 2022.
