The ATP Finals 2024 will continue to enjoy Carlos Alcaraz at the highest level, at least one more match. The player from Murcia has managed to keep his chances of qualifying for the semifinals after beating Andrey Rublev in the second match of the group stage.

The Spaniard has subdued the Russian in a match where he won 6-3, 7-6, redeeming himself from the defeat in his first match against Casper Ruud. In his debut, the Spaniard did not look at all comfortable on the court, with a handkerchief all the time revealing that he was sick.

In fact, after that defeat Alcaraz confirmed the suspicions, and announced that he had arrived in Turin with health problems. For that reason, the Spaniard's condition was the main doubt for the match against Rublev. However, in his statements on the court after the victory, Carlitos has assured that he feels much better.

"I've had health problems the last week. Today I thought I was going to feel better. I was well enough to play, but I'm thinking that in the first game I was thinking a lot about being sick and not being able to play," begins Carlos Alcaraz.

"Today I was really looking forward to jump on the court and show good tennis and play at a high level. Trying to make people have fun and make them happy. When I walked off the court in the first match I felt I hadn't entertained people or played good tennis. Today I tried to do that and I think I played very good tennis," added the Spaniard.

"I surprised myself with my game from the baseline and with my serve. I was very calm. I tried to focus on my game and forget that I wasn't feeling well, that I was sick, all those things. Once you get on the court, you have to forget everything that's bothering you off the court. You have to concentrate on hitting good forehand and backhand. Make good tactics. I think I did pretty well. I surprised myself," concludes Alcaraz, who will face Alexander Zverev in his third match on Friday.
