Carlos Alcaraz has not had a very successful Asian tour. He was eliminated by Jannik Sinner in the semifinals of the China Open and in the round of 16 of the Shanghai Masters by Grigor Dimitrov.
Despite this, and a season with a very tight schedule, he is still dreaming of finishing the year as world No. 1. He is currently 500 points behind Novak Djokovic in the ATP Race (8945 vs. 8445).
Thus, the Spaniard has decided not to rest and compete in the ATP 500 in Basel next week to try to catch up with the Serb before facing the Paris Masters. He has said it in a press conference in statements picked up by Punto de Break after his defeat against Dimitrov:
"It's been complicated for me to finish the year as No. 1, but I will try to do my best in Basel, which will be my next tournament. It's going to be difficult but I want to try."
