Jannik Sinner arrived in Paris hoping to secure a spot in the
ATP Finals in Turin however today's defeat against Alcaraz makes that very unlikely.
It was a brilliant match between Alcaraz and Sinner in Paris as the duo might prove to be the biggest rivalry in future tennis. They are by far the biggest talents in ATP tennis as of now and both are slated for a major career. This match had huge implications for Sinner's chances for the ATP Finals as the Italian needed a strong showing in Paris.
Against Alcaraz, it was always going to be tough but the Spaniard proved too much for Sinner today. From the start, it was evident Sinner did not have his best today. The Italian was simply misfiring too often from the baseline and his devastating attacking play was not as damaging to Alcaraz. The Spaniard loves to attack himself and Sinner is not a great defender and it showed.
After trading early breaks in the first two games, both settled and from there we did not see many chances for either player. It was going to be decided in the tiebreak and in it, it was Alcaraz who proved better. More consistent from the baseline and ready for anything that Sinner had to offer proved the winning combination. Rather easily he closed the first set with 7-1 in the tiebreak.
The 2nd set was another good one but once again ti was Alcaraz who was better. Sinner had two save early break points in two difefent games and while he was able to do that his return game was nowhere near the leve needed. Alcaraz never really ran into trouble when serving and once he finally found a break later in the 2nd set it was over for the Italian.
