Former world number three
Juan Martin del Potro believes that
the rivalry between the likes of Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz and Italy’s Jannik
Sinner will be ‘very good’ for tennis. Both players are already regarded as two
of the best young talents currently playing in the men’s singles category.
Del Potro was recently quoted in a report where he praised Alcaraz’s
‘freshness’ and further went on to state that his rivalry with Sinner will be
very good for tennis.
“I love seeing Alcaraz because he has a freshness and
naturalness when walking on the court that makes him look like a 30-year-old
guy who has been on the circuit for 10 years and is super young,” he said. “He
is going to be very good for tennis, that face-to-face against Sinner. A
rivalry that tennis constantly had is going to happen. First it was
Agassi-Sampras, then Roger-Rafa, then Novak. And now it will be the two of
them.”
Both players are currently taking part in the Madrid Open
and have already booked their place in the quarterfinal. The two-time Grand
Slam winner booked his place in the last-eight after beating Jan-Lennard Struff
6-3, 6-7, 7-6. On the other hand, Sinner cemented his place in the quarterfinal
after beating Karen Khachanov in the round of 16 with a score of 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
