If you haven't been living under a rock you probably know who Carlos Alcaraz is. The Spanish teenager has been turning heads for a while now and yet another brilliant display sees him through to the Erste Bank Open semifinals. The Spaniard plays a very aggressive playstyle that catches many tennis players off guard. That was the case against Matteo Berrettini early today with the Italian unsure of what to do.
Alcaraz came into the match determined to attack every 2nd serve Berrettini had. Preferably most of those balls would go on the Italian's backhand and early on that proved very successful. What little balls Berrettini got onto his forehands ended up missing wide and that was the story of a 6-1 first set win by Alcaraz.
The 2nd set was much better by Berrettini although early on he had to face several break points. After successfully fending on the early onslaught, Berrettini was able to settle in nicely doing a lot of damage with his first serve. As long as it hit he was very good. The Spaniard held his serve with ease as well so we ended up in a tiebreak. In it, it was Berrettini who proved better winning it 7-2.
The final set was another one that had signature rallies with brilliant moments by both. Berrettini was not able to hit his first serve consistently which opened a tiny window for Alcaraz. After carving out a break point the Spaniard converted it winning a sensational rally. He was not able to hold onto that lead so we ended up in another brilliant tiebreak where the Spaniard triumphed with 7-5.
