Carlos Alcaraz played and won his second match in Basel beating Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4 6-2.
The Spaniard endured a long and tough match against Jack Draper in round one but he proved much better in this one taking down a very solid Dutch player. Botic played far better than he did in round one as well but he was still no match for Alcaraz who did have issues at times but he passed the test overall.
He applied heavy pressure on the Dutch player from the start but Botic was able to handle it rather well with his serve being strong enough. Midway through Alcaraz finally found a hole in his opponent's game and took the 5-3 lead.
He closed it out 6-3 but opened the second set by losing his serve early and giving van de Zandschulp the 2-0 lead. Understanding the issue with that, he became serious, turned it up and pulled the break back. He broke his opponent once more for the 4-2 then and then once more for the 6-2 finish.
Six straight games for Alcaraz who played his best match since the US Open today. 20 winners and 9 unforced errors showcased a measured approach for the world number one.
