Carlos Alcaraz played a solid match to take down compatriot
Pablo Carreno Busta 6-3 6-4 at the Swiss Indoor Basel.
It was a very solid match from Alcaraz who defeated Carreno Busta for the second time this year. The first one came in the Barcelona Open final and he won that easier than this one as his level in this one wasn't his best.
It was a bit of a regression for him after he went from good to great in matches one and two. It was still good enough to win in straight sets so he won't complain about the end result. He broke Pablo midway through the set and held that break for the first set 6-3.
Neither player was outhitting the other but Alcaraz was simply better and more consistent from the baseline. The second set opened well for Alcaraz who took a 2-0 lead once more but gave it right back as Carreno hit some amazing shots.
The younger Spaniard kept applying pressure and eventually got the break again to finish it off 6-4 in the second set. Another semi-final for Alcaraz who is trying to finish the year as world number one.
