The Spanish
Davis Cup team received some terrible news this morning as
Carlos Alcaraz tested positive for COVID-19 which ends his Davis Cup Finals hopes.
Carlos Alcaraz was thrilled when he was called up for the Spanish Davis Cup team as playing for his country has been a longtime dream of his. Doing it in the Finals where Spain is trying to defend their trophy from 2019 makes it all the better but he won't be debuting this year. The youngster tested positive for COVID-19 today and he won't be able to play for Spain in the Finals.
It's terrible news for the Spanish team that also lost Bautista Agut a few days ago leaving them with a very depleted team with only Carreno-Busta ranked inside the top 50. After the news Pedro Martinez got the call up to replace Alcaraz with the Spanish youngster writing on social media:
"Hello everyone. I wanted to communicate that today I tested positive for Covid-19 which will prevent me from playing in the Davis Cup Finals."
The other Spanish players will get tested as well ahead of their clash with Russia to determine whether Alcaraz is an isolated case or whether it's an outbreak.
