It didn't take long for
Carlos Alcaraz to win his maiden trophy as the Spaniard won it in the first event he played this year by beating Norrie in the final 6-3 7-5.
Alcaraz lost to Norrie the last time they played in Cincinnati last year but this time around he proved way too good for the Brit. It was a match on clay so it wasn't a huge surprise but it was good to see Alcaraz get back to winning ways in the most impressive fashion. He was heavily favoured to win the match and it looked pretty good early on.
He didn't break Norrie until midway through the set but he looked very comfortable on the court so fans were calm. When he finally got the break, Alcaraz unlocked even more of his game as he cruised to a 6-3 finish in the first set. The break came quicker in the second set as he did it at the first chance he got to take a 3-0 lead.
It seemed like a comfortable cruise for Alcaraz but he got broken when he was about the end the match at 5-3. Norrie managed to prolong in a little bit more but ultimately failed to secure a tiebreak as Alcaraz ended it 7-5. The first trophy for Alcaraz in 2023 but surely not the last.
