The Norwegian player was considered the underdog in this match but he was able to play a very sturdy match to take it 7-6(4) 6-4.
It was a pretty typical indoor match where serves dominated at the start of the match. Both Auger-Aliassime and
Casper Ruud had no issues in holding their serve and served great. There weren't any nerves present for Felix but Ruud doesn't suit him stylistically that well.
Sooner or later those problems arose as Ruud never appeared flustered in the match, even in the tiebreak. He dropped only a handful of points on his serve in the entire match while Auger started to show cracks towards the end of the match.
He had issues on his second serve and that was what cost him the first set. In the second set Ruud looked comfortable once more and patiently waited for Auger to run into problems and once he did, Ruud finished it off 6-4. A good win for Ruud as nobody really expected him to take this one.
