Casper Ruud had to play a pretty strong match of tennis to outlast Jaume Munar who fought hard in this one losing 6-7(3) and 6-7(4).
Tie breaks are not that common on clay but they do tend to happen when a match is really close and neither player is able to take advantage of the other. This one was both in a way as Ruud and Munar broke each other in both sets but ultimately had to settle it in the tiebreak. It was a strong effort from Ruud but not his best which is why he complicated things in both sets.
In the first one, Ruud jumped out to an early 3-1 lead but allowed Munar to fight back and make it 4-4. Towards the end, we saw one more break point but Munar had it and not Ruud as the Norwegian struggled to break down the feisty Spaniard. Eventually in the tiebreak, Ruud did establish control taking it 7-3. Despite serving a bit better, Munar's problem was the 2nd serve that cost him the set.
The 2nd set was very similar in the sense that Ruud was once again on top early with the 3-1 lead that he held until 4-2 which she when Munar turned the score into his favour. He was up 5-4 and had 40-15 on Ruud's serve but he was unable to take advantage of that massive chance to take the set. We saw another tiebreak and it was a close one but Ruud prevailed in the end 7-4.
