Casper Ruud has added a 3rd title to his name by defeating Federico Coria 6-3 6-2 in the Nordea Open final.
The Norwegian is slowly making a case of being one of the best clay-court players on the Tour and he confirmed that by smashing a very good Coria 6-3 6-2 in the Nordea Open final. Coria has been a standout performer in 2021 both on the ATP tour and the Challenger tour on clay.
However, he was completely overmatched by Ruud who will bag another 250 ATP points for his win in Bastad climbing even higher on the rankings. From the start, it was clear that Ruud was the better player as he was able to take control of rallies.
Coria was a step slow which is not surprising considering the number of matches the Argentinian played in the last month. Ruud was great on his own serve not dropping a lot of points but his play on return was key. Coria is not a strong server yet Ruud was able to completely neutralize him.
The Norwegian continued a great season which saw him achieve notable results on clay that he hopes will translate to the hardcourt season. He will skip the Olympics to focus on improving as a player which he needs to as his hard-court game leaves a lot to be desired.
