Tough victories aren't foreign to Cilic who had a similar battle in round 2. This time around he was set to face a tough Spaniard who seemingly never gives up. And it was the Spaniard who struck first winning the 1st set after a tie-break 7-6(3). Cilic rebounded pretty well in the 2nd set which he ultimately managed to win 6-4.
It was an uplifting he neede as the completely dominated the next set. Losing only 5 points in the whole set he won it 6-0. The Spaniard, however, wasn't going to quit and came back to play a majestic fourth set winning it barely 7-5. So it was time for the decider. Bautista-Agut had the momentum on his side but he failed to convert it as Marin jumped out to an early 2-0 lead.
He kept serving well enough for the remainder of the set not allowing his opponent any more breakpoints. Ultimately after 4 hours and 10 minutes Cilic converted his match point and won this dramatic match.
