Alex Corretja believes that Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal will remain the players to beat in 2021, despite many good rivals who will try to topple them.
The Spaniard can see Djokovic and Nadal as Major champions again in 2021. However, they should face stern challenges in Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem, who already stole one Major title from them at the US Open.
Corretja is convinced that Medvedev will be a Major contender in 2021 and that Thiem can win it again after a marvelous performance at the US Open. Alex would love to see Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov at the top of their game, and more of the same from the young compatriot Carlos Alcaraz, the brightest Spanish prospects at the moment.
"I think that Djokovic and Nadal will remain at the top; I would even say that the two will add at least one Major title in the season ahead of us. As for those who can raise their level, I think Medvedev is very close to winning a Major and that Thiem will stay a very tough opponent to beat, especially having the experience of New York and knowing he is capable of winning notable titles; that helps a lot.
Dominic has a lot of strength, experience and plays well on all surfaces; it will be challenging to stop him. I would love to see Felix-Auger Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov stepping forward; they are two players I love to watch. Tsitsipas is another who should also do it. Rafa will again be our leader in the new season, together with Bautista Agut and Carreno Busta. Pablo is getting closer and closer to surprise us all at Majors, especially after 2020," Alex Corretja said.
