Former World No.1 Jim Courier believes rising star Carlos Alcaraz has a bright future ahead of him, and predicted the Spaniard would lift a Grand Slam trophy over the next year.
Alcaraz is coming off a career-best semifinal showing at an ATP Masters event, where he lost to Rafael Nadal at last week Indian Wells event. After seeing the 18-year old take the 21-time Grand Slam champion to three sets, Courier felt confident enough to make a bold declaration.
“I think Alcaraz has the potential to do it in the next four majors,” the 51-year-old revealed on Tennis Channel. “All signs point towards opportunity for him, it wouldn’t surprise me.”
The World No.16 has two ATP titles to his name including the ATP Next Gen Masters and has reached a Grand Slam quarter final. Alcaraz will be hoping to replicate his Indian Wells performance at the Miami Open, which kicks off this week.
