Jakub Mensik is into the Quarter-Finals of the 2025 Miami Open and a second at ATP Masters 1000 level after the withdrawal of Tomas Machac before their all Czech clash on Tuesday.

Machac who has had a good season up to now was looking to continue in that vein but had to withdraw prior to their all Czech clash and so Mensik who took down Jack Draper earlier in the tournament advances.

The showdown between the pair would've been their second Head to Head clash after Machac's three-set victory in Acapulco earlier this year. It would have been the first all-Czech match-up in the Last 16 or later since Berdych and Rosol met in the fourth round of Indian Wells back in 2015.

Now Mensik will take on Alexander Zverev or Arthur FIls in his second Quarter-Final. He also reached this point in Shanghai back in 2024. The 19-year-old is the sixth teenager to reach the Miami Quarter-Finals since 2010. He joins elite company including Zverev as well as Sinner and Alcaraz. All of whom from the list have cracked the top 10 of the ATP Rankings.

Mensik will hope for a similar trajectory from his fledgling career thus far and now will get a crack potentially at the top seed to reach a maiden semi-final. He will already break the top 50 and will go up towards the top 30 if he reaches the semi-finals.

As well as seeing off Draper to open up the draw, he has seen off Roberto Bautista Agut and Roman Safiullin to improve his record to 11-6 for the season overall and now will return fresher than his next opponent. For Machac it is a shame but it is another nearly miss for a player with obvious talents who through a myriad of issues can't see to do it on the big stage as of yet.
