Daniil Medvedev ended the perfect run of Christopher Eubanks at the Miami Open by beating him in straight sets 6-3 7-5 to move to the semi-final.
Medvedev has been very impressive on a tennis court for a while. The Russian lost only to Carlos Alcaraz in the past two months and Christopher Eubanks failed to add his name to that list. He did manage to put up a good fight in his breakthrough event which will see him enter the top 100. It's a great result for the American who treated this match as a bonus and he certainly showed that he belonged.
The problem for him is that he didn't serve as well as he needed to. He hit his first serve only 58 % of the time and that was simply not good enough to win the match. He risked a few times hitting some double faults but for the most part, played pretty well from the baseline. Not too many errors and Medvedev certainly had to work for every point.
The first set was interrupted by rain and that threw off Eubanks who didn't have a good rhyme upon return. He got broken and Medvedev took the set 6-3. The second set started well for Eubanks but he dropped his serve midway through. It looked like it was over but he actually broke back extending the match further.
Medvedev would get more chance at 6-5 and he took the finishin off the match 7-5. Good play from both but better from Medvedev in the end.
