Daniil Medvedev battles past Ivashka for the Den Bosch semifinal

Daniil Medvedev battles past a very spirited effort from Ilya Ivashka to win the match in Den Bosch 7-6(8) 6-4.

Medvedev is playing solid tennis overall and he said after the match how this was a typical match for him on the grass. Medvedev jokingly explained that it seemed like he did something in the first set while actually, it was quite dull tennis-wise. Both players dominated on their serve to start but then we saw four breaks in a row with the score tied at the end of that 3-3.

The courts have held up pretty well making the conditions still rather fast. In the tiebreak neither wanted to lose so we saw a lengthy one between them. In the end, it was Medvedev who got it 10-8 behind only two aces and six double faults.

The 2nd set was even more of a typical grass court affair as this time around both truly dominated on their serve and we did not see a single break point until the final game of the match. Medvedev was applying heavy pressure on Ivashka for a couple of games and finally, at 5-4 it paid off. Jumping out to a 40-0 lead Medvedev used his first set point as Ivashka committed yet another unforced error. Too many of those.
