Daniil Medvedev battles past Pedro Martinez in Miami

Daniil Medvedev advanced to the 4th round of the Miami Masters after taking down Pedro Martinez 6-3 6-4.

The Russian played a very balanced match albeit with quite a bit of resistance from Martinez who handled the Russian quite well. It was a hard-fought match that lasted close to 90 minutes which is something that was not expected once the Russian stepped onto the court.

Medvedev was widely seen as the overwhelming favourite to win this comfortably and while he did, the Spaniard was able to break his serve once which is something Murray never came close to. Martinez played a pretty good match overall handling Medvedev far better than most. The Russian was superb on his own serve in the first set hitting 8 aces overall.

He droppd only a handful of points and never faced a break point in the 6-3 first set win. The 2nd set opened with Medvedev taking an early lead 2-1. He would give it right back suffering his first loss of serve this event. Eventually though things settled nicely for Medvedev who would break Martinez once more later on the set. He finished off with 6-4.
