Russia’s tennis star Andrey Rublev shared his love for
fellow countryman Daniil Medvedev but realised his mistake soon afterwards.
The two have been rated as one of the best players in the world
in the men’s singles category. In the recent past, the current world number
three named Rublev to become the godfather of his daughter.
When asked why he did that, Medvedev responded by saying: "He's
religious, so that's important to be a godfather. So it was kind of an easy
decision.”
Rublev, in a video recently posted on Twitter, expressed his
love for Medvedev but went a bit over the top by mixing the word ‘godfather’
with ‘grandfather’.
"I love Daniil (Medvedev). He gave me an opportunity
and a special role to be a grandfather. Oh grandfather! Godfather of his
daughter," he said.
Rublev had a decent start to his 2024 season as in the first
Grand Slam of the year — Australian Open — he was knocked out in the quarterfinal
after losing to Italy’s Jannik Sinner with a score of 6-4, 7-6, 6-3.
On the other hand, Medvedev also had a more than decent
start to his new season as he finished as the runner-up in the Australian Open
after losing to Sinner in the final with a score of 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.
