Medvedev entered the match vs Nagal as the clear favourite and he justified with his display on the court. Medvedev is a very tough matchup for anyone let alone Nagal who earns most of his money on clay. The Indian player does not possess powerful groundstrokes which made it really hard for him to break through Medvedev's defence.
The Russian attacked at every chance he got and with great success. A huge part of his quick 1st win was his serving. He hit 3 aces, he hit only one 1st serve (95%) and he won 17/21 first serve points played.
Medvedev started off the second set with an early break point effectively sealing the deal on the match. He then won his next service game to take the 2-0 lead. From there it was a rather routine finish for Medvedev who simply could not be denied.
The Russian is looking like a formidable opponent at the Olympic Games and certainly looks like a player to beat if you want to win a medal. He will face Fognini next.
