Collins kicked off the year in great fashion at the Australian Open notching several notable victories. Her season got derailed after that due to some health struggles and surgery to correct it. However, the American is finally picking up some form on clay.
After a few good weeks, she finally reached a final and in the final, she faced a player that defeated not long ago in Hamburg. Once again Collins found herself in a hole early on trailing for most of the first set. However, she was able to fight her way back to make it 4-4.
After that, she added another break and proceeded to close out the first set with 6-4. It was a sorely needed confidence booster for Collins who was the first seed at the event. She then went on to play even better tennis taking the 2nd set with 6-2.
A great performance by Collins against a tricky and in form player in Ruse. She finally has a title to her name despite earning that right a long time ago. Danielle Collins, WTA titleholder at age 27. Congratulations.
