Daniil Medvedev endures slow start to win against Moutet in Mallorca

Daniil Medvedev kicked off the Mallorca Championships in better fashion than he did the Halle event winning his first-round matchup.

Medvedev started his Mallorca Championships campaign with a straight-sets win over Corentin Moutet despite a slow start. It did not look good initially for Medvedev who actually enjoys playing on grass. The Russian was down 0-3 and then 1-4 before Medvedev went on a 5 game run to close out the first set with 6-4.

The Russian needed some time to adjust to his opponent and the conditions and once he did he completely took over the match. Moutet is not a good grass-court player and it showed.

The Russian attacked every 2nd serve of Moutet and he was able to win the majority of those points. That gave him plenty of opportunities to break Moutet which Medvedev did. On his own serve, he was superb dropping few points. All of that was enough for the 6-4 6-2 victory over the Frenchman.

Medvedev will play 5th seed Casper Ruud in the next round with the Norwegian winning already two matches at the event.
