Bianca Andreescu got her first grass win in a very long time by defeating American Christian McHale 6-4 2-6 6-2.
Bianca Andreescu is still playing her way into form after an injury at the Miami Open and a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. The Canadian played in Berlin last week but failed to win her 1st round match. In Eastbourne, she was finally able to win a match on the grass taking down Christina McHale 2-1.
The match was a very interesting one and featured a focused Andreescu early who took an early break which she maintained throughout the set. At 5-3, she served for the first set but lost the game giving McHale a chance to come back. The American failed to do so as Andreescu ended it with 6-4.
The 2nd set featured a dropoff in level from Andreescu who was making bad mistakes. McHale used that opportunity to take the 2nd set with 6-2. The American looked energized heading into the 3rd but Andreescu came back in a strong fashion.
Not allowing McHale to build up even more confidence she stepped up early taking a 3-0 lead. From there it was a routine finish as Andreescu was able to hold her serve and win the final set with 6-2.
