Daniil Medvedev did what he needed to do in his match against Alex De Minaur giving Russia the 2-0 lead over Australia.
The tie is not over with the doubles remaining to be played but Russia secured a valuable victory for the continuation of the event. Medvedev looked as sharp as ever against De Minaur who traditionally plays some of his best tennis back home in Australia. This was a rather fast-paced match as neither played looked interested in long rallies.
Either it was a winner or a forced mistake in most rallies which is why the match lasted barely over an hour. Medvedev was pretty sharp from the start with De Minaur unable to hit through him. Whenever that is the case, players usually lose against Medvedev and that was the case in this match as well. The Russian took the first set with 6-4.
The 2nd set was a proper blitzkrieg with the Russian completely taking over. De Minaur was unable to counter with anything and if the Russian remained focused till the end he would have served up a bagel to De Minaur. A couple of rushed points lost him the game where he served for the match but he still closed it out with 6-2.
