Felix-Auger Aliassime defeated
Cameron Norrie in a very entertaining match, keeping Canada in the
ATP Cup.
It was a very pivotal match for Team Canada as they were down 0-1 against Great Britain but
Felix Auger-Aliassime was able to pull it out 7-6(4) 6-3. It was a very entertaining match, especially in the first set as we saw many twists and turns. Felix Auger-Aliassime was the better player from the start but a few of his past demons came back to haunt him for a bit.
He was playing a very solid match from the start taking an early lead and keeping it for the better part of the set. At 5-3 when he served for the set he started making some of the mistakes that have plagued his career so far. He committed a few doubles faults and gave Norrie a chance to get back into the match. The Brit took it and it was 5-5 pretty quickly.
The first set was settled in the tiebreak where Auger-Aliassime proved slightly better taking it 7-4. He opened the 2nd set well as well taking an early break off of Norrie who seemed out of it. He took a 2-0 lead but Norrie showed some signs of life breaking the Canadian to make it 2-1. He almost won his service game ut ultimately failed to do so giving the lead back 3-1.
After that, it was a rather easy cruise for Felix who did not have any issues moving forward. He closed out the match with 6-3 for a crucial point for Team Canada. The tie will be determined by the doubles match.
