The match was a rather straightforward one for Azarenka who had no issues against her doubles partner. It was also a much easier match for her compared to their match in Indian Wells a few months ago where Badosa triumphed. Early on it was the Spaniard who was better, taking an early 2-1 lead with a break up. Azarenka pulled it right back 2-2, but Badosa once again went up 3-2.
Once again she was unable to hold onto it and Azarenka made it 3-3 before completely taking over control of the match. She won the next three games to close out the first set with 6-3. Both players struggled on their 2nd serve as both are pretty good returners. Azarenka was a bit better and that is why she took the first set.
The 2nd set opened well for Azarenka as well as Badosa was simply never able to find the right rhythm. Her attacking style of play works wonderous when it's on but today it misfired too often. Azarenka was playing pretty well as well and every time she had a chance she took it. After taking an early lead she was able to hold it and even add on top of it.
Ultimately she closed it out with 6-2. An impressive showing from Azarenka who has played rather well down under traditionally.
