Daniil Medvedev is through in Doha after beating Liam Broady while
Carlos Alcaraz finished off his match against Mateus Alves in Rio de Janerio.
A couple of tennis superstars booked their place in the next round of their respective events. In Doha Daniil Medvedev took to the courts an hour before midnight local time to take on Liam Broady and he started slowly. Medvedev lost his serve in the first game but broke back immediately. After that, we saw the players cruise comfortably until Medvedev broke Broady once more.
He failed to serve out the match at 5-3 but broke Broady for the 3rd time to finally get it done 6-4. The second set was much simpler for Medvedev who got a break midway through and then from there he mostly focused on his serve. The final score was 6-4 6-3. A good effort from Medvedev who had 27 winners and six aces.
Carlos Alcaraz did something similar but it took him two days to do so. Alcaraz took on a native player who was playing a really solid match not giving too much to the Spaniard. The match began yesterday and almost concluded but at 5-3 rain stopped play on all courts. It didn't stop for hours which postponed the match today with Alcaraz finally getting it done 6-4 6-4.
