Daniil Medvedev saves match point against Auger-Aliassime, comes back to win and secure semifinal

Daniil Medvedev faced very stiff opposition from Felix Auger-Aliassime who was up two sets to love but the Russian came back to win in five sets 6-7(4) 3-6 7-6(1) 7-5 6-4.

Getting to the semifinal for Medvedev was not easy as the Russian had to battle back from being down two sets to love. Auger-Aliassime played very good early on and Medvedev was pretty solid as well but neither was able to find a breakthrough. Auger was the first to strike taking a 6-5 lead but Medvedev came back to force the tiebreak. The Canadian still won 7-4.

Auger-Alissime rode that confidence wave in the 2nd set outplaying Medvedev to take the 2nd set with 6-3. It seemed like the Canadian was on his way to win the match and move on to the semifinals but Medvedev was not done yet. In the 3rd set, Auger had the only break point in the whole set but after failing to use it he had to try and win it in the tiebreak. He failed as Medvedev cruised 7-2 and send it into a 4th set.

In the 4th both played really well. Medvedev applied a lot of pressure on Auger but the Canadian was superb on his serve routinely winning games. At 5-4, Auger forced a match point but Medvedev saved it with a superb serve. He won the game and went on to win the next two to secure the 4th set. After that, it became clear that the Russian finally found a way.

The 5th set was another interesting one. Early on it was Auger-Alaissime who played a bit better. He had 40-15 on Medvedev's serve but after failing to convert it he fell apart. Medvedev took a 3-1 lead and never looked back. Auger tried and had a break point at 4-3 but Medvedev held firm. The Russian closed it out with 6-4.
