Daniil Medvedev smashes Koepfer to move on at US Open

Medvedev and Koepfer last met in 2019 when Medvedev reached the US Open with the Russian winning 3-1. Today they played once more and once again at the US Open but this time Medvedev was even more convincing. The first set was the only set that could be considered close.

Medvedev took an early break but Koepfer was able to pull it back. The Russian would break him once again later and close out the set with 6-4. The indoor conditions slowed things down a bit and Koepfer was simply not able to outhit Medvedev.

The Russian stood behind the baseline and defended extremely well with the German lacking the consistency to hit several great shots and break that defence down. The 2nd set was more of Medvedev superbly defending and winning it 6-1.

The final set was more or less the same with Medvedev cruising to a comfortable win. The Russian is back to playing smashing tennis after a minor hiccup in Cincinnati against Rublev. He still seems like the most dangerous player to Djokovic at the US Open.
