Daniil Medvedev fumbled the first set but he came back strong in the next two to win the match in three sets and finally win a trophy 5-7 6-2 6-2.
The Russian entered this one after a brilliant week where he played some of the best tennis he played in a long time. Sinner was the same but his matches generally had more fight than those of Medvedev which were utterly impressive. Sinner had a winning streak going having triumphed in Montpellier last week and ultimately that fatigue kind of proved key in this one.
Sinner was very sharp in the first set holding his own against Medvedev once more. He would apply some heavy pressure and despite dropping an early lead, he still won the set 7-5. The second set was much more impressive from Medvedev as he took it 6-2 with Sinner missing a lot more than before.
The Italian had some moments of brilliance still but Medvedev was much more aware of how to attack his opponent and the misses started piling up. The Italian simply looked more and more tired and it proved true in the final set when he collapsed towards the end. 6-2 was the score for Medvedev once more as wins the trophy. He's now 5-0 against Sinner all time.
