The top seed delivered this week in Toronto as Medvedev wrapped up his great week in the biggest city of Canada by winning the title. His opponent was Reilly Opelka, a player he defeated several times so far in his career including once in 2021 at the French Open.
Another triumph tonight was never in doubt as Medvedev established himself as the better player early on in the match. Even so, he was lucky to be up 4-2 midway through the set as Opelka had 3 break points at 1-2 for him. After failing to convert that he played a fairly underwhelming next game and got broken.
Medvedev served out the set with 6-4 narrowly missing out on taking a double break lead. Opelka was playing fairly aggressive opting for the quick winner most of the time which kind of worked. He was able to generate pressure on Medvedev but once presented with a break ball he would fail to use it.
That repeated in the 2nd set as well and while Opelka failed to use his chances Medvedev did not. The Russian took an early break in the 2nd set and from there cruised to the finish line. A greek week by Medvedev who won his 4th Masters trophy.
