Arthur Fils had the best moment of his career at the Lyon Open recently lifting his maiden trophy but today he wasn't able to surprise
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina who won 6-1 4-6 6-3 6-3.
It was a very interesting match between two very electric players and the start of the match certainly was exciting. It was Fokina who came out with a lot of fire taking the opening set 6-1 behind 6 inners. Fils was all over the place unable to use his serve to generate a lot of pressure and committing 13 unforced errors.
He did much better in the second set, especially on serve which proved crucial for him as he won it 6-4. The crowd was really backing him but he was unable to sustain the level needed to beat Fokina. He seemed a bit tired after a long week in Lyon as well and Fokina generally plays with a lot of energy
He used that to take control of the match once more taking the 3rd set 6-3. The finish was rather smooth as well as the Spaniard finished things off 6-3 in the final set. A really solid performance from Fokina and a bit of a lacklustre showing from Fils overall.
