Alejandro Davidovich Fokina threw away the win in the 3rd set, then come back in superb fashion in the 5th set and then witnessed
Hubert Hurkacz throw away the win as well.
It was a crazy match between the two players that finished after three and half hours with Fokina winning in five sets. The final score was 7-6(4) 6-4 5-7 2-6 7-6(8). The simplest way to explain this match is to basically start from the beginning. Fokina opened well albeit a bit crazy to start. Hurkacz did not open well but was able to hold his serve thanks to his serve.
The Polish player looked quite off the entire match and he never really found a good rhythm. Fokina was able to find his towards the end of the set and take it in the tiebreak 7-4. He continued playing well in the 2nd set winning it 6-4 as well and was up a break in the final set. It was 5-4 and 40-0 for Fokina on his serve when he attempted a tweener to finish it off.
He missed and lost the game with Hurkacu winning two more to win the 3rd set. He looked more energetic and engaged in the 4th set smashing Fokina who was totally out of it. He opened the final set with an early break but lost it at 5-4 when he served for the match. In the match tiebreak, it was Hurkacz who was better leading 7-4. The next seven points were 6-1 for Fokina as the Spaniard clinched the crazy win.
The match was stopped twice by rain and featured two players choking when serving for the match wih a crazy finish as well. What a day one at
Wimbledon.
