Davis Cup: Draw announced, groups confirmed

ITF and Kosmos Tennis have today announced the draw for the Davis Cup by Rakuten Madrid Finals during an event held in London.

Even though the tennis season has been effectively cancelled for 4-6 weeks tennis activity is still going on. So the ITF and Kosmos tennis held the Davis Cup Finals draw in London today. The event is set to take place in November so for now, there is no threat of cancellation for it. In total 18 teams will partake in it battling for the famous Davis Cup trophy.

The confirmed groups:

Group A: Spain (1), Russia, Ecuador
Group B: Canada (2), Kazakhstan, Sweden
Group C: France (3), Great Britain, Czech Republic
Group D: Croatia (4), Australia, Hungary
Group E: USA (5), Italy, Colombia
Group F: Serbia (6), Germany, Austria
The 18 nations were divided into six groups of three teams. The six group winners and two best-performing group runners-up will advance to the knockout phase of the competition. The defending champions are Spain who defeated Canada in the final last year.
David Haggerty, ITF President, said: "We enjoyed a superb inaugural year at the Davis Cup by Rakuten Madrid Finals in 2019, with some of the world’s best players contesting thrilling matches in front of passionate fans. Today’s draw has produced some exciting match-ups, and we are already looking forward to more superb Davis Cup action in November."
