Social media has become one of the main interactions between athletes and fans. Many athletes use it as a way of communicating their though on ongoing issues. Dominic Thiem is the latest player to do so speaking about the coronavirus threat.
Due to the rapid spread of the virus and ease of transmission, the BNP Paribas Open was cancelled earlier this week. Now the whole tennis tour was shut down for almost six weeks. Dominic Thiem used his Instagram account to apologize to the fans and staff who work at the BNP Paribas Open. He also voiced his disappointment about not being able to play but admitted that the health and safety of all involved are more important.
The full post reads:
"Unfortunately we have to wrap up and leave without playing a tournament here in the states! I'm very sorry for all the fans and people who worked hard the entire year to make these tournaments special and unique. At the moment we have to accept the decision and do our best to keep everybody healthy and safe! I'm already looking forward to hit some balls again and will keep all of you updated as soon as I get some news!"
