Day 1 results of men's singles in Cincinnati: Last year's semifinalist Čilič is out

Marin Cilic lost to Novak Djokovic last year in the semifinals of the tournament, so it was expected that he would try to defend points this year.

Cilic did not manage to outplay Radu Albot and lost 6-4, 7-6 (6). Although Cilic had 6 set balls in the second set, he was unable to convert any of them, to get into the 3rd decisive set.

On the other hand, his opponent from Moldova managed to convert the first match ball and so he advanced to the next round.

Another disappointment was the return to the singles of Andy Murray, who lost to Richard Gasquet in 2 sets 6-4, 6-4. Andy announced after the match that we wouldn't be able to see him in the upcoming US Open.

Also, rising-star Felix Auger-Aliassime did not win his match and is out in the 1st round. Auger-Aliassime lost to Kecmanovic 6-3, 6-3 and so he will have more time to prepare for the upcoming US Open.
