Daniil Medvedev was forced to remove the flag of Russian from his Instagram account but pressing the issue further could put his family in danger believes Todd Woodbridge.
Medvedev along with other tennis stars has made his position on the war clear expressing hope that it will end as soon as possible so he can focus on promoting his country and the sport of tennis. By a decision of the ATP and WTA Medvedev was forced to remove the flag of Russia from his social media profiles but some have called for even more drastic action.
Britains sport's minister mentioned that Medvedev might be asked to denounce Putin and his actions publicly in order to be granted a chance to play at Wimbledon. Tennis legend Todd Woodbridge has reservations about that approach. Speaking to Nine Sport's Sunday, he said:
"That is such slippery and dangerous ground. We all know they have families back in whatever part of Russia they are from, and you do not want to be on the wrong side of that, because your family will pay a price. This is really dangerous territory, and one that we have to be very sensitive about."
