Bulgaria defeated Moldova in their second tie at the 2020 ATP Cup when they won both matches in singles and lead the group.
Coming to the Australia, Bulgaria was definitely not the favorite to advance from Group C. With Moldova, they were outsiders to Great Britain and Belgium who had high goals ahead of the ATP Cup. But already before the even started,
Dimitrov spoke about the great chemistry in their team.
In the first tie of Sunday in Sydney, Dimitar Kuzmanov opened the day against Alexander Cozbinov. Kuzmanov earned the first point for Bulgaria as he defeated Cozbinov 6-1 and 7-5 after an hour and 49 minutes.
After the victory over Great Britain, Dimitrov's victory over Albot in second matchup could bring Bulgaria another step closer to quarterfinal. And 2017 ATP Finals champion did not experience any major problems. He defeated Radu Albot 6-2 and 6-3 after just 84 minutes to secure the second point in Group C for Bulgaria.
In the doubles, Dimitrov & Lazarov lost to Albot & Cozbinov 4-6, 6-7 but the match did not change much. Bulgaria added another 2-1 victory what, at the moment, gives them the first place in Group C.
Belgium will meet Great Britain in the afternoon session as they can take over the lead. However, the matchup between
Belgium and Bulgaria on Tuesday will decide about the winner of the group.
After the victory, Dimitrov was satisfied with the team again,
when he said: "It's always nice when you have fellas to hang around with. We do breakfast, dinner, lunch together. A lot of jokes. It makes things easier, put your mind off-tennis a little bit. Everybody has shown a tremendous amount of discipline. We are doing the right things and we are really pleased to play in front of this crowd!"
