It was a close call for Serbia but ultimately Novak Djokovic and Nikola Cacic were able to send Serbia into the Davis Cup Finals semifinals.
The pair needed to win this final match in order to send Serbia and while dicey at times they were able to do it successfully. They did need three sets out of which neither was particularly close. Each set was dominated by one pair and the first one was especially impressive from the Serbians. Nedovyesov and Golubev looked quite nervous in that opening set not playing well at all and the Serbians ran away with it quickly 6-2.
The 2nd set was much better by the Kazakhstani pairing who applied pressure from the start. It was a very different tactic from the first set and it worked as they were able to take a very early break in the 2nd set. From there they were able to hold it rather easily adding one more to the mix closing it out with 6-2. Djokovic was not happy at all and he showed visible frustration after the loss.
Highly driven and determined Djokovic came out with a vengeance in the 3rd set playing some of the best tennis he played all day long. He created havoc with his return and the Serbians were able to create a break chance which they converted for a 4-2 lead. A huge game happened at 4-3 when Cacic served and he was able to hold his own and the Serbians took a 5-3 lead.
From there they cruised to an easy 6-3 finish to secure the semifinal spot to a loud roar of quite a bit of Serbian fans in the Madrid arena. The victory meant a lot to Djokovic who once again put his country on his back and delivered.
