Maria Sharapova knows a thing or two about becoming world-famous as a teen and the Russian advised Raducanu to enjoy every single moment of it.
Emma Raducanu rose to stardom over the course of couple of monts in 2021 with her encounter with fame coming after a very good Wimbledon run out of nowhere. Little did she know that a couple of weeks later she would become a superstar in the world of tennis by winning the US Open as a qualifier. It's been nothing but spotlight since then for Raducanu and that can be rather overwhelming for a young invidiual.
Maria Sharapova knows how it is and asked about it recently the Russian shared her thoughts giving some advice to Raducanu. She said:
“You learn through it. When [you’re young] and you succeed and become a champion, there are certainly going to be opportunities off court that come your way. Emma [Raducanu] is an incredible athlete, what she has achieved at such a young age is very rare in the sports world and she has to enjoy every single moment of it.”
Sharapova further added:
“From my own experience at a young age, winning Wimbledon came so unexpectedly I never thought that I was physically ready to win seven matches in a 14-day period. When that happens, it’s incredibly overwhelming, you still can’t quite believe it. Emma and her family will cherish that beautiful feeling forever because it is all so exciting. You’re thinking, did that really just happen?”
