Novak Djokovic did his part in keeping the hopes of Serbia for a semifinals spot alive by defeating Alexander Bublik easily in two sets.
The Serbian has been superb for Serbia at this even only losing one doubles match so far and he will need to perfect today again. He did half the job by defeating Bublik in a rather easy way not exerting himself too much because he will step out to play the doubles again. Whether he can will Serbia into the semifinals remains to be seen but his form in the singles match looked great.
Bublik on paper does not like players like Djokovic because the Serbian is able to keep the ball in play for a prolonged period of time. Sasha prefers to keep points short and he tried to do that here as well but it did not work out too well. His serve was also under constant pressure with Djokovic being one of the best returners on the tour.
That resulted in very quick problems for Bulik who had to fend off break points in his first service games. He was able to do so for a while but ultimately Djokovic was able to wrestle control away from the Kazakhstani player and win the opening set with 6-3. The 2nd set followed a similar pattern with Djokovic once again getting an early break.
He tried to finish it off quicker but Bublik would not let him by keeping his serve. Eventually, Djokovic closed out the match with 6-4 in the 2nd set. It only took a little over an hour so it was a very good warm-up session for Djokovic who will need his best in the doubles. Stay with us and find out later if he was able to do it.
