Novak Djokovic elected to play the doubles in Paris after not having enough matches lately and the Serbian and his compatriot Krajinovic started off well.
The Serbians faced a tricky doubles combination from Australia and Saville and De Minaur and it was a very entertaining match that saw many great rallies and points. Djokovic and Krajinovic have played before and their chemistry flashed a few times during the match especially in key points. The first set was largely dominated by both pairs on their own serve.
Djokovic showed quite a bit of rust when serving committing a few doubles and allowing the break when he served. The Australians were very clinical and hung on to close out the opening set with 6-4. The 2nd set was very interesting as well as the Serbians had to save early break points at the start. Both Djokovic and Krajinovic did so successfully and it proved key later on.
Towards the end of the set, it was the Australians who were forced to save break points and while they saved one, they did not the other. Djokovic smashed a return down the middle to win the 2nd set with 6-4 letting out a big roar after that. The championship tiebreak was another brilliant display of doubles tennis with the Serbians jumping out to a 4-0 lead.
After that, Saville and De Minaur launched a huge comeback eventually taking the 6-5 lead. The duo was very locked in during that comeback winning points in a multitude of ways. In the end, the Serbians rallied to win the championship tiebreak 10-7 and move on. A good match for Djokovic to get his feet wet ahead of his singles match against Fucsovics.
