Novak Djokovic defeated Matteo Berrettini in the opening match of the 2019 Nitto ATP Finals in London 6-2 and 6-1.
It was a really quick start for Djokovic as he spent on the court just a bit less than an hour. It was the match between second-seeded 16-time Grand Slam champion and just 23 years old promising talent. Therefore, everybody expected Novak to win the match comfortably.
Following the
Paris Masters victory, Djokovic came to London relaxed and ready to
fight for the year-end no.1 spot. The beginning of the match was very calm when both players held their service games in the first 4 games. But then it was all about Djokovic. He won the following 8 games to claim the first set 6-2 and secure the lead 4-0 in the second.
However, young Italian was still able to fight as he broke Djokovic's service game to make it 4-1, but Djokovic showed his best tennis again and won the second set 6-1. Djokovic earned the first point in the group stage and Berrettini will need to fight in the other matches if he wants to advance.
