Djokovic escapes defeat against Fucsovics in Paris

Novak Djokovic had a very tough going against Marton Fucsovics but the Serbian was able to prevail in three sets 6-2 4-6 6-3.

It's been a bit of rough going for Novak Djokovic in his first singles match after the US Open. The Serbian came out very strong in the match forcing Fucsovics to labor for every point. The Serbian returned extremely well and deep and generally stayed in every rally. Fuscovisc was unsure of what to do and eventually, the Hungarian proved unable to avoid mistakes.

That was more than enough for a 6-2 swift first set. In the 2nd set, Djokovic had trouble getting the ball into the court because the Hungarian served very well. The Hungarian was also able to hit some sensational winners with his forehand and that gave him a break chance. He would take it and win the 2nd set with 6-4.

Djokovic did not serve very well throughout the match which gave Fuscovis chances in the 2nd set which he took. The Hungarian fancied his chances in the 3rd set and despite an early break by Djokovic, he did not give up. Fucsovics was able to battle back from the deficit and tie up the score before we entered a very entertaining final phase of the match.

Djokovic had experience on his side and he never lost to Fucsovics before. That proved a very important thing in the final games where the Serbian knew exactly what to do. Fuscovics was unable to produce some magic and the Serbian would close it out with 6-3. Tougher than it needed to be but a good confidence builder for Djokovic moving forward.
