Novak Djokovic did everything he could to will Serbia into the
Davis Cup Finals but they were ultimately beaten by Croatia.
The recurring problem for Serbia over the course of the event was the singles as nobody besides Djokovic was able to win a match. They tried Lajovic, they tried Krajinovic and they tried Kecmanovic with all three losing matches. It was Lajovic who lost to world number 287 Borna Gojo in the first match that complicated things for Serbia.
Djokovic and Krajinovic needed to defeat Mektic and Pavic in the doubles and that proved too much to handle. After the defeat Krajinovic said:
"I am sad about the defeat, I hope we will also progress in singles
to help Novak. I have a feeling that in the last few singles matches it
didn't go the way we wanted, we didn't play the best. I know that
it is difficult for Novak to play both singles and doubles every time."
Djokovic had to dig deep in the previous round as well delivering the win in the doubles to allow Serbia to play in the semifinals at all. Krajinovic understand the pressure Djokovic's faces but he hopes the team can improve upon that next time:
"That puts a lot of pressure on him, even though he handles it well. I
hope that we will help him in the next few years, to form a strong
doubles team, so that the players in singles can be more relaxed and
concentrated on their matches. We lack that."
